Introducing Robyn and Glow Yoga Kids

Updated: Apr 5, 2022

Hello! Hi everyone! My name is Robyn. If you haven’t yet met me, I have been manning the reception desk for the past couple months on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I am loving the opportunity to connect with all of your beautiful faces, despite the masks that make it hard sometimes!

I know that Covid tends to be the main topic of conversation these days and not always in the best way, which is why I felt called to share with you the beauty that I’ve been a part of this year.

The beginning of the year started out great as after nearly 4 years of working with Glow Yoga Kids (a mindful and movement initiative for the young at heart in YEG), I purchased the company from my dear friend. I got to see my love of sharing yoga with kiddos from an ownership perspective, which was and is such a wonderful experience. When Covid shut down schools and daycares (the bulk of our business), I had some low moments. I spent a lot of time blaming and shaming myself, as though I could’ve possibly predicted an event of this magnitude. It was then that I made the decision to head down to Calgary and support my older sister and her husband with childcare for their young daughters.

I was there for almost 3 months and am so beyond grateful for the opportunity to connect with them on a deeper level. Not just the aunt that comes and visits but the aunt that learned and grew alongside them during what was a really hard time for everyone. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my relationship with them since then and continue to deepen that special bond every time I visit.

It was also during that time, that I did a lot of self-discovery and reflection. Those littles helped me get in touch with the child within me who has been begging for my attention for quite some time. I realized that if I really wanted to live authentically in the world, I needed to focus on the things that bring me the most joy. Since I was little, I’ve always wanted to write a book. I’ve written many stories in my years but none that I felt confident enough to share with others, until now. Covid gave me the space to write and man, did it flow! In under 2 months, I completed the manuscript and had a lead on a publisher and illustrator. In under 4 months, the book was complete and ready for printing. We are currently in the waiting period for the official copies to arrive and expect to receive them before the end of the year.

What this year has taught me is that when things are meant for you, they will happen… and happen easily. No more pushing or forcing because… why? It was the same just before I started with Healing Connections. I knew I needed something to help me out financially during this tricky time but also I knew I needed connection and support from a community of like-minded people. I hadn’t even started looking for a place yet but I had made it known to the Universe that I was looking. I happened to be scrolling through Instagram and saw the ad for a receptionist. I compared the ad to my resume and it was like they had written out my resume in point form, that’s how similar it was. I reached out and once again, it flowed. I immediately felt connected and comfortable with the ownership team and I assume they felt the same way about me, otherwise I wouldn’t be here writing this month’s newsletter to you.

Even though this isn’t the year I expected or planned for, I’m feeling really at peace with how it’s played out so far. I’ve been given a new perspective on life and I am super grateful for it. I hope that you’ve been given the opportunity to be a part of the goodness that this year has to offer and breathed in those moments with gratitude and love. Lots of love and stay well, Robyn
