Autumn Equinox 2021 (Plus, what is Abhyanga!?)

With the approach of the autumn equinox we take time to reset, it is a time to harvest the lessons of the summer season and make room for what is to come. Autumn gives us the opportunity to show our gratitude for the cycle of the seasons of our lives, and prepare for upcoming winter. Now is the time to ready our bodies and mind for the darkness and cold before the rebirth of spring.

At Healing Connections we are committed to your health and well-being through all the seasons. Now is the time, more than ever, to focus on your physical and emotional health; using the tools you have to be proactive in your healing.

Many of the modalities at Healing Connections can boost your physical and spiritual immune system!

Abhyanga (Ayurvedic Massage) Now Available at Healing Connections!

Abhyanga is a warm oil massage that uses a specific series of massage patterns to achieve two goals: to calm your nervous system and induce deep relaxation, while moving lymph towards the lymph nodes. This form of massage has a simultaneous tonifying & cleansing effect, leaving you deeply relaxed. The intricate connection between your lymphatic system and immune system cannot be ignored, and this massage helps that aspect of your body to function optimally.

The appropriate oil for your current constitution is gently heated for a soothing effect, which also aids in the absorption of the oil and movement of lymph. It is recommended that a hot shower is taken later on in the day: the heat will once again help with movement of lymph and absorption of oil, and any excess will be removed which then has a cleansing action. This therapy is highly beneficial to enhance overall well-being and to reduce stress.

The oil used for Abhyanga is organic, cold pressed, food grade oil. This is because everything that gets absorbed by the skin eventually ends up at the liver – so you can understand from this just how deep this practice is. You are truly nourishing your body from the outside in.

Practicing Abhyanga has a wide range of health benefits including: - healthy hair - graceful aging - increases Ojas (Ayurvedic term for vigor, longevity, endurance, immunity) - benefits lymphatic drainage and circulation - healthy joints and strong limbs - provides nourishment for the whole body - soft, supple, strong skin - improved sleep - reduces stress and tension from the nervous system and musculoskeletal system

It is crucial to acknowledge the roots of this incredible version of massage. Ayurveda is the traditional holistic healing science from India, and deserves our gratitude, love, and respect.
